Dec 2019/Jan 2020 - Letter from the President - Community Modernization

During the 2019 Annual HOA Meeting, we discussed how the Shavano Rogers Ranch Crosstimber community began in 1999. The general consensus was that there are numerous modernization issues within our 20 year old HOA that need to be prioritized and addressed by the formation of several community committees. One of our first goals is to update the Crosstimber HOA website (www.crosstimberhoa.com) with electronic forms so that your voices are heard without having to go door to door to obtain your signature vote for each issue.

The community modernization issues that have been raised thus far include:

  • Prepare a recommended list of maintenance items that should be scheduled for every common area and individual homes. EX: Every common area should be maintained on a regular schedule (Power washing, Tree trimming, light bulbs replaced, etc.)
  • Ensure Architecture Standards are applied uniformly across each sub neighborhood. EX: Developers still have access rights to areas that they shouldn’t
  • Hosting annual neighborhood pride events and working with other neighboring communities to clean up the greenways, common and hiking trails, etc.
  • Require standards of conduct to guide respectful and effective communication between our home owners, board members, and HOA management team via US mail, email, SMS/MMS text, and online).
    • Homeowners have complained that fellow home owners do passive aggressive things like putting a picture of their home address and their car license plates online along with a shaming statement about them.
    • Another more recent example might be a home owner attacking a social media post and bullying someone to shutdown discussion before it even starts.
    • The goal is to prevent lawsuits and limit our liability as we begin to expand our communication channels with a new website and increase participation at Board Meetings by allowing RR Crosstimbers Homeowners to attend HOA meetings remotely using whatever communication channel makes sense for their family (Skype, Facebook live, or Zoom).
  • Address complaints that our current communication methods are not ideal. Our current “Pull” communication strategy requires RR Crosstimbers home owners to “opt in” to email only notification. EX: Many residents state that this presents a public safety concern because they are most likely to receive the information that they need when we “push” it across all communication channels (via US mail, email, online, and text) and/or allow them to pick the communication channel that they would like to use.
  • Increase security within the Rogers Ranch Crosstimber Community. The $50K cost of patrolling this Crosstimber for only 4 hours a day doesn’t deter crime in a neighborhood of 650+ high dollar homes increases annually. Here’s a recent video that outlines how SAPD partners with Ring to reduce neighborhood crime: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3ur_NF_CH0
